As in all setbacks and disappointments, it never happens. The Hovercraft proves to be slow and noisy. The uncontrollable craft skims over the grass, and then crashes to the ground, totally crushing Henry’s spirit.
Henry’s first project was the inner tube tied with helium balloons, and then his aerodynamic wings invention—both failures. And now—now—his Hovercraft project. Nothing seems to work, no matter what he does.
And then, Lady Norton blinks into view.
The old witch appears so suddenly and silently, you’d think she rose up from the ground. And she happens to mention that Berk Porter built his own flying contraption when he was Henry’s age.
A new light appears in Henry’s eyes. If it’s true—if the flying craft is still at the Porter House, Henry knows it’s spectacular. Porter was no ordinary inventor. No, he was a man beyond his time!
